 I’ve long-considered that witnessing the birth of my two kids many years ago were the two most exhilarating moments in my life.
Then about 18 months ago I strung up my first classical guitar, which had taken nearly two seemingly endless years to build, and that rush of sheer joy and excitement came back to me. To be a founding and continuing member of this flourishing group of local makers has had a very positive effect on how I spend most of my spare time these days.
Gradually building up a tool collection, setting up a workspace (in my kitchen!), accumulating pieces of beautiful Australian timbers, experimenting with building dulcimers and ukuleles, and spending time in the presence of some very gifted wood workers and instrument players … it’s all good.
To be practicing and learning more about this time-honoured craft each day has become more that a hobby ... it’s a most magnificent obsession.
